Scalar gravitational wave signals from core collapse in massive scalar–tensor gravity with triple-scalar interactions

چکیده

The spontaneous scalarization during the stellar core collapse in massive scalar-tensor theories of gravity introduces extra polarizations (on top plus and cross modes) gravitational waves, whose amplitudes are determined by several model parameters. Observations such scalarization-induced waveforms therefore offer valuable probes into these gravity. Considering a triple-scalar interactions theories, we find that self-coupling effects suppress magnitude thus reduce amplitude associated wave signals. In addition, self-interacting waveform shown to be negligible due dispersion throughout astrophysically distant propagation. As consequence, waves observed on Earth feature characteristic inverse-chirp pattern. Although not with on-going ground-based detectors, illustrate may detectable at signal-to-noise ratio level ${\cal O}(100)$ future as Einstein Telescope Cosmic Explorer.

Long-Lived Inverse Chirp Signals from Core-Collapse in Massive Scalar-Tensor Gravity.

This Letter considers stellar core collapse in massive scalar-tensor theories of gravity. The presence of a mass term for the scalar field allows for dramatic increases in the radiated gravitational wave signal. There are several potential smoking gun signatures of a departure from general relativity associated with this process. These signatures could show up within existing LIGO-Virgo searches.

Gravitational waves from the collapse and bounce of a stellar core in tensor-scalar gravity

Tensor-scalar theory of gravity allows the generation of gravitational waves from astrophysical sources, like Supernovæ, even in the spherical case. That motivated us to study the collapse of a degenerate stellar core, within tensor-scalar gravity, leading to the formation of a neutron star through a bounce and the formation of a shock. We discuss in this paper the effects of the scalar field o...

Gravitational Wave Emission From Core-Collapse of Massive Stars

We derive estimates for the characteristics of gravitational radiation from stellar collapse, using recent models of the core-collapse of Chandrasekhar mass white dwarfs (accretion induced collapse), core-collapse supernovae and collapsars, and the collapse of very massive stars (∼> 300M⊙). We study gravitational-wave emission mechanisms using several estimation techniques, including two-dimens...

Towards Gravitational Wave Signals from Realistic Core Collapse Supernova Models

We have computed the gravitational wave signal from supernova core collapse using the presently most realistic input physics available. We start from state-of-the-art progenitor models of rotating and non-rotating massive stars, and simulate the dynamics of their core collapse by integrating the equations of axisymmetric hydrodynamics together with the Boltzmann equation for the neutrino transp...

Gravitational Collapse of Homogeneous Scalar Fields

Conditions under which gravity coupled to self interacting scalar field determines singularity formation are found and discussed. It is shown that, under a suitable matching with an external space, the boundary, if collapses completely, may give rise to a naked singularity. Issues related to the strength of the singularity are discussed.
